WASHINGTON – On Thursday, Congressman Lance Gooden (R-Texas) re-introduced his legislation, the No Tax Dollars for the United Nation’s Immigration Invasion Act, to defund the UN agencies currently financing the ongoing U.S. border crisis.
This month, it was confirmed the United Nations intends to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on “migrant assistance” south of the U.S. border. This assistance comes on top of billions already spent by the international organization in the form of legal counseling, transportation, housing, and even direct cash assistance to facilitate migrants’ journeys to the United States.
Congressman Gooden said, “The United Nations is using our own tax dollars against us, and U.S. policymakers can no longer stand by while elites in the U.N. and Davos actively finance an invasion of our sovereign territory. It’s time to say enough and cut off funding to these corrupt globalist institutions until respect for our territorial integrity and appreciation for our generosity is restored.”
RJ Hauman, head of government relations and communications at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) said, “The United Nations and its migration organizations have long colluded to undermine American sovereignty and sabotage our will to enforce immigration laws. This is especially evident now, as the United Nations gives tens of millions of dollars to hundreds of thousands of economic migrants on their way to cross our southern border illegally — all under the guise of humanitarian relief. But what is even more outrageous is the fact that we fund this practice, essentially using American tax dollars to harm the safety and security of Americans who pay those taxes. It is time to stop financing the invasion at our southern border and that is precisely what Congressman Gooden’s bill would do. We’re proud to support it.”
Specifically, Rep. Gooden’s legislation would prohibit contributions to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This prevents taxpayer funds from being used to facilitate mass migration into the United States. The bill also requires the GAO to conduct an audit of all federal funding previously appropriated to UN agencies that have financed the migrant crisis to force repayment of that funding to the U.S. Treasury.
