Nomination Process
Each November, Congressman Gooden’s office conducts interviews for nominations to four of the five U.S. Service Academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, N.Y. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, Conn., does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
Beginning April 1 of their junior year of high school, students may access the application and a list of requirements on this website. The deadline to apply will be October of their senior year, upon which the application portal will be closed.
Students can begin preparing themselves for a nomination at the beginning of their high school career by focusing on academics, test scores, school activities and sports, community service, and leadership opportunities. Most importantly, applicants should have a strong desire to serve their nation.
