WASHINGTON – On Thursday, Congressman Lance Gooden (R-Texas) sent letters to Catholic Charities, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, and Jewish Family Services demanding the organizations provide information related to their work to relocate migrants throughout the United States.
Rep. Lance Gooden said, “Non-profit groups operating a secretive, taxpayer-funded, and likely illegal operation to move unknown migrants into the United States must be honest and transparent about their role in exacerbating the border crisis. These organizations can provide the documents I am requesting voluntarily now, or they can be compelled to by Congressional subpoena next year.”
Specifically, the letter requests documents related to the organizations’ roles in encouraging, transporting, and harboring aliens to come to, enter, or reside in the United States.
Gooden previously introduced the Stop Federal Funding for Human Trafficking and Smuggling Act, which would defund any U.S. non-profit organizations found complicit in human smuggling or exacerbating the crisis at our southern border.
