WASHINGTON – Congressman Lance Gooden (TX-05), a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter today to Attorney General Pam Bondi urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) for ties to the domestic terror organization Antifa.
In his letter, Gooden details the NLG’s pattern of legal and logistical support to left-wing extremists engaged in violence and property destruction. He points out the NLG’s support for violent left-wing groups targeting Americans while it continues to benefit from substantial subsidies and tax benefits, ultimately paid for by the American taxpayer.
“Under the guise of social welfare, the NLG has enabled violence and destruction in American communities by helping Antifa terrorists evade justice,” said Congressman Gooden. “Amid the historic rise in left-wing violence, the DOJ now, more than ever, must shut down any organization receiving taxpayer benefits to aid those seeking to destroy our country.”
The letter brings attention to reports of NLG members’ direct involvement in recent Antifa-led riots targeting law enforcement and federal property in cities such as Portland, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Considering recent reports and the NLG’s ties to the domestic terrorist group Antifa, Gooden urges the DOJ and concerned agencies to take strict action against anyone involved in these violent extremist activities, including criminal prosecution and revoking tax benefits.
An excerpt of the letter:
Gooden’s letter comes ahead of planned “No Kings” protests across the country this weekend, including rumored Antifa-linked demonstrations targeting government buildings.

An excerpt of the letter:
"…the NLG maintains close ties with Antifa and has been actively offering assistance and advice to avoid law enforcement. The NLG assists left-wing extremists engaged in violence and the destruction of public property while still enjoying significant tax breaks, subsidies, and benefits, ultimately paid by the American taxpayer. These benefits extend to its network of subsidiaries and projects, including the National Lawyers Guild Foundation (NLGF), the National Immigration Project (NIPNLG), the National Police Accountability Project (NPAPNLG), and the Mass Defense Project.
"Reports indicate that NLG members were present in the recent riots and active during the assaults on federal law enforcement facilities in cities like Portland, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The true degree of their involvement in organizing attacks within our country is unclear, but I am deeply concerned that the NLG and its continued support for Antifa extremists pose a direct physical threat to the lives of civilians and law enforcement officers. To ensure public safety and well-being, the extent of the NLG network’s participation in these violent attacks on our democracy must be uncovered, including any financial or political backing by foreign entities."
