Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) Opposes Democrat Anti-Energy Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lance Gooden voted against a bill to place dramatic restrictions on the energy industry, including many provisions from the “Green New Deal”. The legislation was fast-tracked for a vote, despite having little hope to move forward in the Senate. This has been the strategy of Democrats since taking the House majority: pass bills that have no chance at becoming law but offer them a chance to pander to their base.
Congressman Gooden said, “This is a bill of absolutely no consequence and House Democrats know it. I’ve been here long enough to recognize a trend in what House Democrats are doing. They know their base doesn’t want to hand President Trump any victories, so any real legislating is essentially off-limits to them. Instead, they’ve chosen to keep voting on bills with absolutely zero input from across the aisle and claim they’ve done something. They have not.
“I’m more than willing to take a serious look into what government could do to address increasing global temperatures, but this isn’t it. If Democrats aren’t willing to stop vilifying private industry and innovation, they don’t have any hope to address climate change. With gas prices higher than they’ve been in years, this should not be a priority in Washington.”
