Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) Calls for Further Protections for American Workers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) sent a letter to President Trump and cabinet secretaries this morning calling for further immigration restrictions ?in light of our rising unemployment? numbers. While millions of Americans have lost their jobs in recent weeks, no new restrictions have been placed on foreign guest worker programs.

The letter, signed by a group of House Republicans, urges President Trump to expand his immigration ban to apply to substantially all temporary guest worker visas. It also calls for the outright elimination of the broken EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, which has been exploited by wealthy foreign nationals to purchase citizenship for decades.

In an April 22nd Executive Order, President Trump placed a sixty-day ban on green card applications from outside the country. His order pointed to the harmful effects foreign laborers have on the American workforce.

Congressman Gooden issued the following statement in regard to his letter: "Over 33 million Americans have lost their jobs in the past seven weeks. We are seeing unemployment levels similar to the Great Depression, yet the government continues importing the competition of American workers. That's unacceptable."
