Congressman Lance Gooden Opposes Government Funding Package

“This funding agreement is totally insufficient to protect our border – my Democrat colleagues know that and still refuse to provide the necessary funding.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Gooden announced his opposition to the government funding package agreed to by a bipartisan group of negotiators this week. The bill provides the Department of Homeland Security with only $1.37 billion in funding for physical barriers along the southern border, a fraction of the $5.7 billion requested by President Trump.

On his decision, Congressman Gooden said, “This agreement is totally insufficient to protect our border – my Democrat colleagues know that and still refuse to provide the necessary funding. My support for a fully funded border wall is unwavering.

“The bill is over 1,100 pages in length and they gave only 18 hours to review it and cast our vote. This is not how Congress should go about spending taxpayer dollars. I am a NO vote on this bill, and I urge the President to take executive action to ensure our security.”
