WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) sent a letter requesting the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigate and monitor eco-terrorist and eco-terrorist groups recent calls to attack American workers and energy infrastructure.
In recent months, many left-leaning media outlets and social media platforms have amplified calls for destruction of property to further a radical environmental agenda. These horrific ideas include attacks as extreme as blowing up oil and gas pipelines. In other words, these media outlets have effectively condoned acts of eco-terrorism that put American energy workers, first responders, and many of our communities in Texas in danger.
Rep. Lance Gooden said, “The New Yorker and other media outlets have put American lives at risk by dangerously promoting radical eco-terrorist propaganda. I believe the FBI should publicly commit to investigating and prosecuting individuals seeking to commit eco-terrorism, as well as the role the media has played in promoting it.”
The letter specifically requests the FBI and all federal, state, and local law enforcement partners address challenges posed by eco-terrorists. It also reminds the FBI of Congress’ oversight role and encourages the agency to devote sufficient resources to combatting eco-terrorism and determining the media’s role in amplifying these groups’ message.
