Statement from Congressman Lance Gooden on the State of the Union Address

“This moment in history demands cooperation and our complete focus on expanding prosperity and improving quality of life for all Americans.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Trump issued his second State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday. This was the first State of the Union address attended by Congressman Gooden since taking office in January. He was joined by his wife, Alexa, as his guest.

In reaction to the address, Congressman Gooden stated, “The president expressed a vision of our future that focused on the strength we draw from unity as Americans. If we capitalize on that strength by rejecting the politics of resistance, we know that extraordinary achievements are possible.

“This moment in history demands cooperation and our complete focus on expanding prosperity and improving quality of life for all Americans. If we succeed, we will see a safer immigration system operating under the rule of law, as well as higher wages and increased job security for hardworking Americans. Republicans are ready to support the president and find common ground with our colleagues across the aisle. Our country needs them to take this moment seriously and work with us if we are going to reach that better tomorrow.”
