WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, Congressman Lance Gooden (R-Texas) introduced the Protect America’s Innovation and Economic Security from the CCP Act to reestablish the CCP Initiative at the U.S. Department of Justice. The Biden Administration ended this Trump-era program in February 2022.
Rep. Gooden said, “President Biden has once again put far-left activists ahead of our national security by canceling a DOJ program designed to prevent spying by the CCP on U.S. intellectual property and academic institutions. This soft-on-China approach is emboldening the CCP, and Congress can no longer stand by while President Biden behaves like a puppet of Beijing.”
Specifically, DOJ’s Chinese Communist Party Initiative was designed to identify and prosecute individuals identified as engaged in trade theft, hacking, and economic espionage. The program would also protect our critical infrastructure from foreign threats by preventing foreign direct investment and supply chain vulnerabilities.
