Congressman Gooden Votes Against H.R. 8 - Universal Background Check Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Gooden voted to uphold the gun rights of law-abiding citizens this week by casting a vote against the Universal Background Check Bill passed by House Democrats.

Congressman Gooden said of the bill, “The suggestion from Democrats that this bill would prevent mass violence is plain wrong. It would fail to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals, because violent criminals overwhelmingly obtain their weapons illegally.”

“The only tangible impact of this bill would be felt by honest, law-abiding citizens, and they do not deserve to have their Second Amendment rights infringed upon. I voted NO on this bill and continue to stand behind my commitment to protect the right of my constituents and all Americans to buy, keep and sell firearms.” The bill passed the House by a vote of 240-190.
