WASHINGTON – On Thursday, U.S. Congressman Lance Gooden (R-Texas), joined by Reps. Markwayne Mullin (OK-04), Lisa McClain (MI-10), and Jake Ellzey (TX-06), sent a letter to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) requesting the committee forbid U.S. athletes from acquiring or using the Chinese Communist Party’s Digital Electronic Currency Payment, or digital yuan, during the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022.

The digital yuan is entirely controlled by the People’s Bank of China and can be tracked or traced by the central bank. As a result, it is an absolute certainty the Chinese Communist Party will use the digital yuan to surveil Olympic athletes.

Rep. Lance Gooden said, “China is the primary adversary of the United States with a long track record of surveilling American citizens. The United States Olympic Committee should take every precaution to protect the privacy of American athletes from the communist Chinese government.”
