Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) | Democrats Recklessly Abandon the Rule of Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) voted against a rubber stamp measure introduced by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, which gives legal authority to her partisan attempt to overthrow the President of the United States. The resolution omits important protections given to Presidents Nixon and Clinton during their impeachment hearings, such as the right to have legal counsel present during hearings and the minority party’s power to issue subpoenas.

From Congressman Gooden (R-TX):

“I understand they have wanted to impeach President Trump since the day he took office, but for them to so blatantly violate principles like due process and one’s right to defend himself is shocking.

They are talking about removing the head of government from office and with this resolution they are trampling all over the fundamental legal rights that make us who we are. I remain opposed to their relentless effort to unseat this president and I urge my colleagues to consider the gravity of what they are doing.”
