Community Project Funding allows certain federal funds to be directed toward a state, locality, or eligible nonprofit serving a Congressional district through the Appropriations process.
This process allows taxpayer dollars to be reinvested in Texas's Fifth Congressional District and provides Members of Congress with input over spending on eligible projects, rather than deferring to bureaucrats in the Executive Branch to make these decisions.
Congressman Gooden has submitted the following projects on behalf of Texas's Fifth Congressional District:
DALLAS COUNTY
Proposed Recipient: City of Mesquite - Mesquite Metro Airport
Address of Recipient: 757 N. Galloway Ave. Mesquite, Texas 75149
Amount: $1,500,000
Summary: Mesquite Metro Airport is Texas's second busiest general aviation airport without a radar display. A radar display provides real-time weather and flight information, drastically improving the safety standards for pilots and passengers. Installing a radar display will be vital in helping the airport's controllers with their daily operations and increasing the airport's capacity to accommodate larger aircraft and additional traffic.

Proposed Recipient: Town of Sunnyvale - Expansion of Collins Road
Address of Recipient: 127 North Collins Road, Sunnyvale, Texas, 75182
Amount: $16,260,500
Summary: This project would reconstruct Collins Road from its two-lane asphalt section into a four-lane divided concrete thoroughfare from E. Tripp Road to Town East Blvd. This would include the construction of sidewalks, improvements to existing drainage and utility infrastructure, and additional enhancements for pedestrian safety. Collins Road is a vital transportation corridor sustaining the local and regional economy. It is a principal route for commuters, providing access to US Highway 80 and I-30, and would create long-term development opportunities and quality-of-life enhancements.

WOOD COUNTY
Proposed Recipient: Wood County Health Care Foundation
Address of Recipient: 405 East Lipscomb St. Quitman, Texas, 75783
Amount: $6,000,000
Summary: The Wood County Health Care Foundation is constructing the Memory Health Life Center, a regional opportunity for brain health that will focus on education, training, diagnostics, treatment, and care. This facility is crucial for rural Northeast Texas and would be a national model for Alzheimer's and related dementia research and treatment. The Center will incorporate a "living lab," a residential care and treatment center where residents will participate in non-invasive and non-pharmacological research and development efforts. Additionally, it will provide medical students with training in novel approaches to dementia care and treatment.
