Friends,

This week we have seen some of the most outrageous government overreach of our personal freedoms in a long time, and Speaker Pelosi and President Biden seem to be taking a page from the same COVID restrictions textbook. Federal employees are facing some of the most restrictive work conditions of the pandemic to-date, with new mask mandates at the Capitol and an unfair employment dilemma: (1) vaccinate, (2) test rigorously, (3) or go home.

In other news, disgraced former gymnast coach Larry Nassar is not paying restitution to his victims. Unfortunately, he is only one of a long list of federal inmates not paying their debts. So I sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Prisons director demanding answers. Their lack of accountability runs counter to the establishment of justice outlined in our Constitution. Taxpayers deserve better.

Read on for more and to take my survey on Speaker Pelosi’s new mask mandate.

Sincerely,

New Capitol Mask Mandates

Effective immediately, my staff and constituents can be arrested for not wearing a mask inside the House of Representatives. A memo from the U.S. Capitol Police outlines the directive, which includes reporting Members of Congress to the House Sargent at Arms office. I’d like to know what you think about all this!

Jobs for Jabs

Yesterday the Biden Administration announced that civilian federal employees must be vaccinated or submit to rigorous COVID testing. This, on the heals of President Biden telling reporters on Tuesday that “if you’re not vaccinated, you’re not nearly as smart as I thought you were.” I’ve said it before, and I will continue to shout it for folks in the back: it is none of anyone’s business whether you’ve been vaccinated. This is a personal choice, and for the government to backdoor-mandate vaccines is deplorable and an erosion of our personal freedoms.

Federal Inmates Not Paying Their Debts

Yesterday I sent a letter to Federal Bureau of Prisons Director Michael Carvajal requesting clarification on how the Bureau oversees federal inmates’ bank accounts. Recent reports have revealed that federal inmates are skipping out on their financial obligations—such as restitution, fines, special assessments, child support, alimony, costs of incarceration, and costs of prosecution—and participating in illicit activities financial activities. News of Larry Nassar withholding restitution to his rape victims may be getting the attention, but he is only one of a long list of federal inmates who have been allowed to continue victimizing people from behind bars. This is neither justice nor serving the intent of criminals paying their debt to society. The American people deserve answers. Click here to read the full letter to Mr. Carvajal.
