Rep. Lance Gooden Co-Sponsors Resolution to Amend Constitution, Impose Term Limits
‘The time for action is now, and the resolution introduced by Sen. Cruz and Rep. Rooney is the first step toward addressing the many issues that plague the United States Congress.’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lance Gooden this Tuesday signed as a Co-Sponsor to H.J.Res.20, a joint resolution which would amend the Constitution of the United States to impose term limits on elected officials in the House and Senate. The amendment would limit Members of the House to three terms, or six years, and Members of the Senate to two terms, or twelve years. He is proud to announce this commitment to accountability and good government.
Regarding his action, Congressman Gooden stated, “For years, Congressional action in Washington has been slowed by the undetermined attitudes of Members that have been here for far too long. On top of that, the overextended tenure of many elected officials increases their ties to special interests that inhabit the swamp – this occurs in both parties. The result is a legislative body that looks and sounds less like the communities it claims to represent with each new Congress.”
“These problems have existed in Congress for too long, and an overwhelming majority of Americans support the implementation of term limits to solve them. The time for action is now, and the resolution introduced by Sen. Cruz and Rep. Rooney is the first step toward addressing the issues that plague the United States Congress.”
First elected in 2018, Congressman Lance Gooden represents Texas’ 5th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The 5th District stretches from Dallas County to Cherokee, Henderson, Kaufmann, Anderson, Van Zandt and Wood Counties.
Lance and his wife, Alexa, live in Terrell with their son, Liam.
