Gooden Introduces the Stop COVID Act to Hold China Accountable for Coronavirus Pandemic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) has introduced the Stop COVID Act, which would allow the US Department of Justice to investigate the origin of the Coronavirus pandemic by amending the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA). The legislation would also grant jurisdiction over the matter to US Courts, allowing the Justice Department to file claims against the Chinese Communist Party here in America.

Congressman Gooden: "China currently enjoys immunity from US litigation, even if it becomes known that China manufactured this deadly virus. The Stop COVID Act will give our legal system the power to investigate the origin of the virus and, if found guilty hold accountable those responsible for creating and releasing it."

The Chinese Communist Party has misled the rest of the world since the early stages of the Coronavirus outbreak. They have continued to distort and suppress facts, suggesting the virus was created by the United States Military and stifling citizen journalists in Wuhan. As the origin of the virus remains unclear, an immediate investigation into the source of the outbreak is needed.

Background: The Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA) restricts the US Government from filing suit against a foreign nation in our court system. The Stop COVID Act would amend the FSIA to create an exception in the case a foreign nation were found guilty of manufacturing a bioweapon for use against Americans.
