Congressman Lance Gooden Co-Sponsors Sen. Cruz Bill to Fully Fund Border Wall
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Gooden co-sponsored the El Chapo Act this week. The bill was initially introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and would provide more than enough funding to meet President Trump’s request for a border wall. It would reserve approximately $14 billion in assets forfeited to the United States Government in the criminal prosecution of El Chapo, and other drug lords, for border security enhancements.
On the legislation, Congressman Gooden commented, “Senator Cruz’s bill would fully fund the security enhancements required by our Border Patrol and law enforcement agents. It would be a statement to the rule of law that we use these funds, which were illegally obtained by international criminals, for such a noble purpose. We should bring this to a vote today and see if Democrats are serious about securing the border.
“This bill would achieve two landmark objectives in our mission to secure the border. First, it requires those who’ve abused the open border for decades to pay for the wall. More importantly, it provides enough funding to ensure the job is done right – something the funding package proposed by Congress this week fails to do.”
