Texas Unemployment Rate Reaches All Time Low
The Labor Department has released its June jobs report and proven once again that Republican pro-growth policies such as tax reform and deregulation have unleashed a dynamic economy. President Trump’s America First agenda is creating jobs at home and restoring America’s role as a respected leader abroad. The national unemployment rate is near a 50-year low and that of Texas recently dropped to 3.8 percent, the lowest on record.
Our efforts are working. 224,000 jobs were created in June, 17,000 of which were added in the manufacturing sector after years of staggering losses. For an eleventh-straight month, wage growth surpassed 3 percent and provided the most benefit for lower-skilled workers. Unemployment among minorities and those less-educated is rapidly approaching an all-time low.
As I travel across our district, I see signs of growth as businesses expand and consumer confidence continues to increase. Trucking, manufacturing, and construction have brought jobs to areas that were desperate for more opportunities just a few years ago. Texas was once again named the best state in America to start a business for 2019. Both business investment and economic growth in East Texas are outpacing the rest of the state.
As a member of the Texas House of Representatives, I supported legislation based on conservative principles to ensure our state government encourages prosperity rather than stifling it with burdensome regulations. I’m proud to see this coming to fruition in conjunction with President Trump’s winning agenda.
Our state will also benefit from the ratification of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) as it modernizes and builds on the successes of NAFTA. Texas currently exports more than $120 billion in goods and services to our North American neighbors. Changes in USMCA will help to encourage even more exports and increase manufacturing right here at home instead of in foreign countries.
Everyone – regardless of their political beliefs – should view these accomplishments as a testament that our economic policies are working and enhancing life for American families.
