Many of our local small businesses have been waiting for word from Biden’s Small Business Administration on their COVID-19 relief program loan applications. Not only has the SBA ignored business owner requests, but the agency has also failed to respond to congressional inquiries. This morning, I sent a letter directly to SBA Administrator Guzman requesting her engagement on the issue. The people and businesses I represent should not be left in limbo because DC bureaucrats can’t be bothered to do their job.

Biden SAB failing COVID-19 relief program applicants

This morning, I sent a letter to U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman requesting the agency explain its failure to communicate not only with COVID-19 relief program applicants, but also with Congress. These loans are critical for small businesses in our district to bridge financial hardship brought on by COVID lockdowns, and Biden’s SBA has failed to deliver. My colleagues and I in the Texas congressional delegation have sent inquiries to SBA’s San Antonio, Houston and Dallas/Fort Worth District Offices and the SBA’s Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs with no results. Since the SBA will not respond through the regular channels, Congress is stepping in, demanding Administrator Guzman tell us why. A full copy of the letter to Administrator Guzman is available here.

CDC inconsistencies fueling confusion

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) contradictory COVID guidance over the last several months has fueled confusion and hesitancy for Americans trying to make health decisions for themselves and their families. This week Congress sent letters to the CDC requesting the agency improve how it communicates with state and local governments. If there is a reason other than politics that Americans are being told to again mask up, then taxpayers deserve to know, and the CDC has failed to clearly communicate key data around breakthrough infection and transmission—and the metrics that need to be met for mask guidance to be rescinded. The CDC must give state and local governments the information and authorities to manage masking guidelines and vaccination programs in a way that works best for their communities.
