Friends,

Each year on July 4, we commemorate our Declaration of Independence and the sacrifices our forefathers made to ensure our freedom.

America’s enduring commitment to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” distinguishes us from every other nation in the world, as does our commitment to defending our way of life.

I’m honored to continue the fight for Texan values in Washington—for us, our children, and for future generations.

I hope you have a happy, fun and safe Independence Day. Read on for more news from Washington and our 2021 Congressional Art Competition winners.

Sincerely,

Do Not Come – Dems Vote to Strike Down Title 42

Earlier this week, House Democrats blocked an amendment I co-sponsored to prevent the Biden Administration from ending Title 42—a Trump-era policy used by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol to quickly expel illegal immigrants for the purpose of public health protection, sending them back across the border. When the Biden Administration ends Title 42, it will turn the existing crisis into an undeniable catastrophe.

Cartels have become more brazen in their attempts to move dangerous drugs into our country, and children continue to be abused at the hands of human traffickers. Gov. Abbott has filled the leadership void left by President Biden and his Border Czar Kamala Harris, sending law enforcement and resources to border communities and pledging to finish the border wall.

Do you think Texas should finish the wall if the Biden Administration won't?

Bring Home Trevor Reed

This week, the House passed a resolution I co-sponsored calling for the immediate release of our fellow Texan and U.S. Marine veteran Trevor Reed, who was unjustly found guilty and sentenced to 9 years in a Russian prison. My colleagues and I will continue to press the Biden Administration to fight for Reed’s release, as well as that of U.S. Marine veteran Paul Whelan of Michigan.

CPAC is Coming to Texas

The American Conservative Union will host CPAC 2021 in Dallas on July 9-11, and I’m honored to have been selected as a speaker alongside the country’s most conservative leaders. As part of the lead-up to this event, I joined Matt & Mercedes Schlapp on their show “America UnCanceled” to discuss the issues of the day and what Texans are doing to save our country.

Congressional Art Competition Winner Selected

Each spring, Congress hosts a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district. Since 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Of the entries from our district, I’ve chosen a piece by Lilly Donathan of Mabank High School to hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year. A piece by our second-place winner Audra Wickersham, also of Mabank High School, will be on display in my Canton office.

Please join me in congratulating both of these students, and visit my website to learn more about the Congressional Art Competition.

First Place: Lilly Donathan, Mabank High School, 12th grade
